The Meaning of Persistence: It’s All About Never Quitting.
as long as we stick to it long enough.
~~Helen Keller
What is the meaning of persistence to you. Do you ever think about just giving up and going back to your same old, same old life, just getting by on what an employer is willing to pay to keep you there, but to never give you enough to make you wealthy?
To go on resolutely or stubbornly in spite of opposition, importunity, or warning
In just a few short days we are entering into a brand new decade. 2010, it even sounds poetic, doesn’t it?
There’s an old proverb that says:
“If we continue to do what we’ve always done, we will continue to get what we’ve always got.”
Allow me to take you back for a moment, back to the last decade, which will soon be nothing more than a memory.
What kind of memories do you have when you think about those 10 years between 2000 and 2009?
Do you have everything you want in life? Do you have enough:
If you can honestly say that you have as much as you can handle in all five of the categories, and you will never want any more, then you have probably persisted enough to achieve your goals in life.
However, if you can take even one of those categories and say that perhaps there is just a bit missing, then we much press on, even harder in the new decade than in the last one. We must continue to persevere so that we will reach our goals in this decade.
Take inventory. Really be honest with what you’ve achieved in the last decade and bump up the bar for the next one.
Get a book or CD series on goal setting and motivation.
Work on yourself. This is KEY in the new decade. If you work harder on yourself than you do on your business, you can’t help but be successful. It will just come.
I’d like to leave you with a video from someone who knows the meaning of not quitting until you get the prize. My dog, Abby! This is her on Christmas morning, with just one of her presents. She knows that you must keep going and keep unwrapping that present until you get to the good stuff. (And it’s ALWAYS worth it!)
So, let’s press on this decade, let’s persevere until we reach our goals.
Click here to watch Abby persist until she gets the prize and learn how to develop that same kind of toughness to never let anything stop you.
Rock on in 2010 and the new decade.

I love it Debbie. You sure deliver great value in there.

That’s the truth! I have a picture on my wall that I’ve had up for YEARS that says “Don’t Ever Give Up!” It’s a picture of a big bird, like a crane or something with a frog in his mouth half way down holding on to the neck. I always think that if that frog gives up it won’t be good. LOL
Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it.

Debbie! how true is that. Sometimes we give up instead of being like a dog on a bone- or Christmas present. That is great! Abbey sure has the Christmas spirit. We need to all be more like dogs, I think. Never giving up. I don’t mind peeing outside either.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Debbie. The only time you fail is when you quit. If you just keep at it and try different solutions to the problem, eventually you will find the solution.
Just remember what Edison said:
“Many of life’s failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
So…keep going and don’t give up!
Thanks so much for sharing this, Debbie!

Hey Debbie,
Hows things going? I realised recently that I’ve been at this for almost 10 years and initially I was trying to make money for myself 5 years before that.
I have definitely been persistent and will continue to be until I reach my goals.
The only way to fail is to quit in my mind and we just need to continue to push through until we get to be where we want to be…
Personal development and learning new skills and mindset is vital along the way. Eventually things ‘just make sense’.
In the past I’ve read numerous books on self help which I’ve learned a lot from but never really used it. BUT what I found was the more I learn, the more other things make more sense and I started to build on my previous knowledge.
Persistence is definitely the key to success…
Look forward to speaking with you soon,
Thanks

That is so true Gavin. My No. 1 goal for 2010 is to work on myself. The more you work on yourself the better you get and the more the whole industry begins to lift the curtain.
Thanks for your comment. I look forward to connecting with you also!

Debbie,
What a wonderful post! So money times especially in network marketing, people never reach the endzone. Why? It’s because they quit. To tell you the truth, I’m so toed of hearing everyone in this industry throwing out the number of 97% of the people fail. This is not true. People just quit, it’s that simple.
As I post this comment I am traveling to Atlanta for one of our businesses. Using my iPhone to do it is fun too! Not really. But to make my point we have done extremely well in this business in a small amount of time. People in our same group are now looking at another opportunity because someone has the next hottest thing. Is it cool? Yes. Will it be the last hottest new company? No!
You have to stick with one game plan and stick with it to reach the End Zone! Stopping at the 50 yard line and turning the other way people will never become successful Period.
Thanks again for sharing!

Wow, I don’t know which one of you wrote this post, or maybe it was collective, but so much insight. You hit the nail right on the head when you said people don’t fail, they just quit! It’s so true.
Thanks everyone for all your great comments, I think the thing I like most about blogs is readying everyone’s comments, there’s so much wisdom in them!

Debbie,
The concept of working harder on yourself than you do on your business is just what I needed to hear this morning. It’s so easy to get focused on the “techy” details of Internet marketing and to fail to put aside the personal development time.
The Abby video is priceless. I have an Abbie, too. Talk about unconditional love …
Thanks for refocusing me today. I truly appreciate you!

Hi Debbie
One of the reasons I am passionate about this industry is for the very reason it makes your grow. If you stop growing you perish. Persistence is the antidote of perishing!
Thanks

I agree Deb! No matter what it is that we desire in life, there will always be challenges. We need to consistently take aciton, focus on mastery, and most importantly, never ever give up.
It’s sad that so many people give up on their hopes and dreams at the first sign of trouble. Many of those who walk away from what they want are right on the brink at the point where they give up.

Persistence is necessary for winning outcomes. I have a motto that one of my mentors taught me…”Quitters never win, and winners never quit”. He used to ask me…Which one are you? My response – a winner. Thanks for the wonderful post.
