Social Media Will Get You Tons of Exposure if You Know 3 Big Secrets

Why do you think some people who are working their business using Social Media will have a lot of followers while others are struggling to get one or two friends a day.
The art of Social Media Will explode your business if you implement 3 Big “Secrets” when setting up your platform.
Big Secret No. 1 – Smile Big
Yes, smile and smile big. Always, and there are no exceptions here, have a great picture of you smiling. On your twitter profile, on your facebook profile, even on your blog, put your best face forward.
We love your babies and your pets, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can replace a great picture of you when you’re trying to connect with someone.
If you need to, go to the mall and have your picture taken, or ask a friend to take it for you. Nothing makes a better impression than showing people who you really are and adding a smile to the mix.
Big Secret No. 2 – Get a Gravatar
This goes right along with having a picture. If you have a WordPress.org blog (And, nothing you can do when marketing yourself through Social Media will get you more attention than a WordPress.org blog,) you just need to have a Gravatar for making comments on other posts.
A Gravatar is a globally recognized photo of you that will appear when you post comments, etc. one someone else’s blogs. This is a great marketing tool if you have a photo that will draw people to it. If you write an intelligent comment on a post and you have a good, smiling picture, people will have a tendency to click back to your last post and read what you have to say.
My friend John Chatman has a great blog post on adding a Gravatar to your site and making the most of it. Be sure to check this out when you’re ready to add a Gravatar to your social media efforts.
So show your gravatar proudly and you will get attention!
Big Secret No. 3 – Always write a personal message when friending someone
No matter how many friend requests I get a day, the ratios are always the same. On a consistent basis only 1 out of 20 sends a personal message along with it. This makes all the difference in the world.
Sending a personal message goes a long way to being remembered later on. In my twitter message to new followers I extend an invitation to join me on Facebook also, and I include my link to Facebook page.
I love it when I get a personal message telling me they are accepting my message through twitter and requesting my friendship on Facebook. These are people I remember.
You can also write on the wall of the person you are accepting the friendship from thanking them for their friend request.
To wrap it all up, it’s the little touches that will make people remember you. Your picture, your nice comments and your great advice will stand out in others’ minds.
Just jump in and join the party. Social Media will open up your world to new possibilities and if you just turn your sails a little bit and implement a few “personalizers” it will take you to a whole new world.

Debbie,
I absolutely love this post Debbie and not just because you linked to me. I think the reason I like this post so much is that this is really a great example of how easy Social Media really boils down too. You have presented information that is readily available elsewhere in terms that everyone can understand and even more importantly ACT ON.
I really enjoy your work and definitely look forward to your continued growth in the Social Media realm. You set an incredible example and anyone who is lucky enough to be able to work with you is in for a treat.
To Our Success,
John

Hi Debbie,
You mean I have to actually get to know people when I use social media and have them know me? But, there are so much freaks out there! (just kidding)
If you are wanting to enlarge your circle of influence it is all about building relationships.
I guess some people go to parties with bags over their heads but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Thanks once again Debbie, for reminding us all of the simple things that make a big impression.
You have a choice so, make it a better than terrific day!

Debbie,
Excellent post. Here’s a great quote (I can’t remember who said it, so my apologies)…. “Never stop smiling, even if you’re sad, because you never know who will fall in love with your smile”…
Writing personal messages is so true. I hate getting spam messages that say “thx for following, learn how I made $1,234,432,321.32 in 30 seconds using twitter (some link here)”…. in fact, if the very first message I get from people is one of these…. I unfollow… simple.
Have a great day,
Jorge

Thanks Debbie, I love learning secrets!
I especially like this sentence:
“We love your babies and your pets, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can replace a great picture of you when you’re trying to connect with someone.”
I really like to see who I’m chatting with, and I tend to accept friends with their smiling faces over the ones without.
Take Care,
Sharlene
