90 Day Challenge – Day 3

Finish each day and be done with it.  You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.  Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

bees_FullYou’re probably starting to see a pattern here with me. I like quotes. I think they get you thinking, and sometimes even have the power to make or break your day.

This particular quote is an excellent quote to start day 3’s summary with, and if you’re wondering about the bees, I’ll explain them later, just hang with me for a minute or two.

You see, not only can a quote make or break your day, but there are a lot of other things that have the same power to do just that.

You have to learn to not let the highs or the lows get to you. Hmmm, did you read that right? Yep, you sure did. Even the highs can break your day.

Today was a very interesting day for me. It was definitely one of those good news/bad news days.

I’ll start with the good news.

Monday night I received an email from Mike Litman asking me if I was available to be interviewed on his Internet show called the Huddle.

Once I got over the initial shock of the whole situation, I couldn’t decide if I was more excited or terrified.

Why, you might ask… Well, sitting at my computer writing an article is pretty easy for me, but to actually take, even if on video or the phone when I know a lot of people are watching, well, that’s just a bit more difficult.

But I did it. It was an amazing experience. I was a nervous wreck, but after a few minutes I got into it and realized that I had pushed myself WAYYY out of my comfort zone for the second time this week. (First time was making the video on day 1).

That felt good, especially since I was getting a lot of very positive feedback. I hung up the phone feeling pretty proud of myself. This was a definite high for me.

OK, enough self-promotion…..

Now on with my day,.

I’m going to go backwards for a minute to tell you the bad news.

I started my day at around 4:45 a.m., like any other day, with my dog scratching at my covers telling me that nature is calling and I’d better let her out.

As I was waking up hoping I was dreaming, and that she would at least have the common courtesy to wait until the alarm clock went off, I was aware of a very strange sound. It’s not Christmas time so I knew it couldn’t be Santa on my roof!

When I turned on the light, I realized the sound was buzzing and that I was staring into the eyes of many bees flying around my room and walking around on my floor.

Great start to a day, huh?

Enter the exterminator. Bees flew away and so did $150.00 out of my checking account.

I guess by now you’re starting to see that I had a couple really intense highs and lows during my day today, which made it really difficult to focus on what I needed to get done.

One of my projects for the day was to do my video for the front page of my blog. I wanted to shoot it in the park. I trucked down to the park with video camera and tripod in hand and, geeze, wouldn’t you know it, somewhere around the third minute of trying to make my video my batteries went dead.

~~~Note to self: Always take extra batteries.
Moral of the story: There will be highs and there will be lows, don’t let them affect you in either direction.
When something good happens, enjoy it, but don’t spend a lot of time basking in it. And, when something bad happens, get over it quickly. Find a happy medium.
Pat yourself on the back and really celebrate your victories.
Whine a bit over the lows, and move on.
I came home and focused on writing my summary for the day, and went to bed trying to figure out if it was a good day or a bad day, then it hit me.
Every day is a good day, because you have that choice.
Until tomorrow, make it a productive day!
Debbie
    Congrats on tackling that show appearance. I know I would feel the same way if I were a Rock Star being interviewed like you! :)
