Here we are at Day 2 of the 90 day challenge, only 88 days left. It’s going by so fast isn’t it?? =)
Why the dirty soccer ball you might ask. Fair question. Stay tuned and I’ll fill you in later.
I know it’s ONLY day 2, but I’m already beginning to sense a change in the way I feel about my business in general. I’m beginning to feel a little different about myself and the way I see myself as a person.
Last night I felt myself slipping back into old patterns of being tired and not really wanting to honor my two commitments.
I heard myself saying in my head “It’s ok, you still have 88 days left to make this work, and who will know, right?).
At about the same time the little red guy on my left shoulder was whispering that in my ear, another little guy with wings and a halo came floating past me holding a sign with one word on it in big bold letters ….
Where in the heck did he come from.
It’s even strange that I saw him, because I’m so accustomed to just listening to what the little red guy says and waiting until tomorrow to do what I need to do, and we all know about tomorrow, right…..
I knew that if I skipped one day it would be one little chip out of my commitment. Do you ever experience that with exercising. You skip one day and then its really easy to skip the next day, and by the third day you’re not even thinking about it any more.
That’s how I felt. I knew that if I skipped yesterday that today would be even easier to skip and tomorrow, well, you know the story.
I checked my email and had there was one from Mike Litman. He wanted to interview ME on his huddle group the next day. Wow! That got me excited.
And once again I re-committed myself, after a little bashing for even thinking about not doing it, and proceeded to do my two things for my business.
What did I do? Well, first I put a capture box on my “Join Debbie” page of my blog. Hey, it’s only been up for a month, after all. What’s the big deal about no capture box, right???
Aaarrrgg, can you imagine how many potential leads I could have lost in the last month because I don’t have a capture box on my opportunity page. What was I thinking?
I also changed my Featured Content Rotator to include the 90 Day Challenge! You can now see the challenge featured right on the front.
Allow me to digress here for a minute and tell you how I feel about this situation.
I feel like I conquered a part of me that was a flaw, at least once. And if I’ve done something once, I feel like I can do it again.
I went to bed last night knowing that I was true to myself, and that first and foremost I didn’t let myself down, let alone all of you reading this. That’s HUGE! Trust me on this one.
I’m learning what the lessons are more and more as every day goes by. Today, I feel like this challenge for me is about baby steps. Little tiny steps each day, with a celebration at the end of the day to acknowledge the fact that you moved yourself 1% closer to your goal.
Three big ideas for today:
- Honor your commitment not only to yourself, but to others
- Take baby steps each and every day. When a baby learns to walk they don’t do 10 miles the first day
- Most importantly, celebrate, in any way that makes you feel good, before you go to bed. Celebrate yourself and your victories every night

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the soccer ball. You can really substitute any sport here, but you have to feel the feeling. I’m a soccer mom. Have been since my oldest (Now 23) was about 4. I loved the feeling I had when any one of my kids put the ball in the goal, especially if it was a game winning ball.
A very important event happened one night at a soccer game for my son Cody. You see, he stood to break a very long-standing record for career goals scored at this very game. Right around half-time he tied with E.A. Carr, who had held the record forever.
The only person who came close to his record was my oldest son, Adam, who came within one goal of breaking the record the year before, and would have, but an injury late in the season prevented him from scoring that one last goal.
So now Cody is within one goal in the last game of the season and there’s not a whole lot of time left. Being the vocal soccer mom that I’ve always been you would think that I would be cheering him on with everything that was in me. Nope. Not at all. I sat quietly, biting on my nails with tears forming in my eyes already, but at that point I wasn’t sure they would be tears of joy or sorrow.
Then it happened, a life defining, life changing, moment. Cody Dilauro, Number 11, Senior Forward scored the goal that broke the record for Independence High School, and you can bet that this soccer mom reverted right back to her loud self once again. Everyone in the stadium was cheering and screaming. However, for at least two of us, Cody and I, the world was in slow motion. Can you imagine the feeling?
Here’s my point. I believe that goal was scored over and over again in Cody’s head. I believe he already knew how he would feel when he scored it. I’m pretty sure he saw himself scoring it many, many times.
But he didn’t wake up one morning a great soccer player and neither did Adam. They worked at it every day. I’ve had people ask me if they were born with a soccer ball between their feet.
Some days all they had time to do with kick the ball back and forth between the two of them for a few minutes in the back yard before dinner, but I’m pretty sure that I can say without exception, that every day they had a soccer ball at their feet.
Baby steps, tiny increments every single day, will lead you to scoring the game winning goal every time.
Until tomorrow, make it a productive day!
